Part of November’s output from the Hooked on Hooks‘ workshop – three disparate bespoke orders…

…tells a story. November was one of the busiest months ever for Hooked on Hooks – the pictured bespoke racks were only part of the story – with brisk sales from the website, and three special orders for hand-made hedgehog houses besides.

Cross of Cornwall coat rack: This is for a couple with a soft spot for Cornwall, and what better way to be reminded of a cherished part of the country than with a hand-painted ‘flag motif’ coat rack? For the technically minded, the paint is Farrow & Ball’s Railway Black & James White. The stunning cast iron stick pegs are a Charles Voysey design from the Arts & Crafts era.

Gothic coat rack: Quatrefoils, budded crosses, arrow-head plinth ends… this coat rack, specially made for a couple in Wiltshire, is so Gothic it’s almost a religious experience. Not quite unique, it is a virtual replica of one sold at The Gallery, Stourhead, earlier this year. Literally, there are now only two of these in existence – until someone else spots one on the internet and can’t resist placing an order.

Union Jack Peg Board for keys: Shortly to be homed on a farm in Italy (Ironically, the only two other Union Jack racks that I made also ended up abroad, in America), this particular piece took hours, days…OK….weeks to make but was worth every drop of sweat! With a hand-painted Union Jack (Farrow & Ball’s Pavillion Red, Drawing Room Blue and James White), hand carved pegs, hand-made everything in fact, this really is a personal favourite that will leave a yawning gap in my life and a nagging desire to visit Italy from time to time to check on its progress!

And if anyone out there feels inspired, I’m able to produce handmade, hand-painted coat racks, key boards, etc, with the flag of your choice.
